WNCC Community Engagement and Support

At West Nigeria Christian College, we are committed to not only academic excellence but also to the enrichment of our local community, we take pride in the positive impact our institution has had in fostering educational growth among the young people and teens in our surrounding neighborhoods. Every weekend, we make a concerted effort to provide assistance to students in our community, helping them overcome academic challenges, achieve their educational goals and catch them young for Christ. This report highlights the progress and efforts we’ve made to support the educational development of the young people in our community.

1. Community Outreach & Academic Support:

Recognizing the importance of early academic support, our college has been actively involved in the academic advancement of local young people (aged 3-17) by providing tutoring services and academic assistance every weekend since 2003. These initiatives are designed to provide academic guidance, help with homework, and foster a deeper understanding of subjects that students may struggle with. We reach out to an average of 30 students across three of our educational outreaches at Lakiri, Obasa, Mile 8a, and Mile 8b.

  • Weekend Tutoring Programs:
Every Saturday, our faculty and college students volunteer their time to offer tutoring in various subjects including mathematics, English, Bible studies, and general studies. The sessions are tailored to address the specific academic needs of students from elementary through high school levels.
  • One-on-One Assistance:
Students in need of personalized support receive one-on-one tutoring, where our experienced college students work closely with them to identify areas of difficulty and provide targeted assistance. This method helps build confidence and academic skills in subjects that students may find challenging.

2. Impact and Progress:

Over the past year, we have witnessed significant progress in the academic performance of the students we assist. We have received feedback from both students and their parents, reporting improvements in grades, study habits, and overall confidence. Many students have expressed gratitude for the personalized support and the sense of belonging the weekend sessions create.

3. Future Plans & Continued Support:

Looking ahead, our college is committed to expanding and improving our outreach efforts. We aim to:

  • Organize more interactive workshops that focus on topics such as financial literacy, social skills, and emotional well-being.
  • Expand mentorship programs to reach more students, with an emphasis on helping students navigate the challenges of youth and incorporate them into the Diploma and Degree program of the College respectively.

We will continue our efforts to assist, inspire, and guide the young people of our community on their educational journeys. Together, we can build a brighter future for the next generation. We solicit for your support and partnership as we continue to impact our community positively for Christ.
